Palais Valais? An ideal palace. It brings together literary intiatives in Valais. For the past fifteen years two literary projects with international renown have established themselves on Valais’ linguistic border: the Leukerbad International Literary Festival and the ‘Spycher: Leuk Literature Prize’. The translation atelier in Raron, the Rilke Foundation in Sierre, and others have become part of this expanding network.

One of Palais Valais’ first initiatives, the translation workshop in Leuk with a presentation at the Leukerbad Literary Festival, has become a fixture of the festival. Since 2007 Palais Valais has been coordinating the educational project: ‘Concrete: School and Literature’. Renowned writers spend a week working with students at schools including the Kollegium Brig, the OMS St. Ursula, and the OS Brig, OS Raron, OS Leuk and OS Gampel. This successful project will continue this year and will be conducted in French as well for the seventh time.

Palais Valais is a strategic partnership that will boost Valais as an exceptional location for the writing and reception of literature—in the belief that, despite digital media, books will remain essential conveyers of our knowledge and experience and mirrors of our changing internal and external landscapes.
